All the fireworks we sell are deemed as retail fireworks. To comply with current regulations, all fireworks must fall into the following categories Category 1, Category 2, and Category 3 sometimes referred to as F1, F2, and F3. This determines the minimum safety distance a firework requires. All retail fireworks must currently comply must be marked with the CE standard, replacing the previous BS7117 mark
Category 1 (F1): These are classed as "Indoor" fireworks and designed for close proximity use, typically sparklers, ice fountains, etc.,
Category 2 (F2): These fireworks are for outdoor use only and require a MINIMUM of 8m safety distance, though often a 15m safety distance is recommended. To comply, the firework must have a net explosive content (often referred to as NEC) of UNDER 500g, in the event of a compound each firework must be under the 500g threshold.
Category 3 (F3): These are again outdoor fireworks and are the larger fireworks. They require a MINIMUM safety distance of 25m and MUST have a net explosive content (NEC) of under 1000g. Again for a compound, each firework must be under the 1000g limit.
Any firework that doesn't comply with the above is categorized as Category 4, for professional use only and not for sale to the general public. It is a criminal offense for a retailer to supply or a member of the general public to set off a Category 4 product.
